As you all probably know by now, most social networks like X (Formerly known as Twitter) and Facebook, and also a new one like BlueSky are basically “owned” by a single Company that can influence the way you see the media on those social networks, mainly by actively using certain algorithms to raise the attention to posts and activities that you did not even follow over there.
An alternative hosted social network is based on the ActivityPub protocol. This protocol can be implemented by several servers and connected to by different clients, and is a protocol to connect social media in a more distributed way, generally called the Fediverse.
One of the growing social networks Mastodon is also using the ActivityPub protocol, but the fediverse is not limited to exchanging messages via clients like Mastodon.
As an exercise, trying to connect new blog posts to ActivityPub by a new WordPress Plugin (which is also called ActivityPub, for obvious reasons).
After publishing this post, you should be able to follow this Blog at the designated ActivityPub address Melle@www.mellekoning.nl, by searching for that address and follow it, for example in your mastodon client app.
That way, any time that a new blog post is added, it should show up in your social media feed….
